‘The Life and Death of the Kingston Post Office,’ historical lecture in Marbletown

Posted

One of the saddest examples of a local loss was the majestic 20th century circular post office on Broadway in Kingston. It happened in an era when urban renewal initiatives actually meant wholesale destruction, and the elegant building was lost forever. The saga (and cautionary tale) of losing and protecting landmarks will be shared in the lecture “The Life and Death of the Kingston Post Office,” delivered by Stephen Blauweiss and Karen Berelowitz, authors of the book by the same name. Sponsored by the Ulster County Historical Society, this lecture to be held 3-5 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at the Bevier House Museum, 2682 Route 209, Marbletown, is part of Ulster County Historical Society’s focus on historic preservation this season. Admission is $10 for the public and free to Ulster County Historical Society members. For more information, visit ulstercountyhs.org.
