The next scheduled performance in the International Concert Series will be, Sunday, May 10 with Irish singer, songwriter, and social activist Tommy Sands, at Christ the King Episcopal Church, 3021 Route 213 East, Stone Ridge. From his pioneering days with the Sands Family Band, bringing Irish Music from New York's Carnegie Hall to Moscow's Olympic Stadium, he has developed into one of the most powerful songwriters and revered solo performers in Ireland. Sands is also the co-founder of "Artsawonder," the non-profit Irish Peace organization which has been using music and art to help create an atmosphere of “neighborliness” for meetings between opposing politicians and paramilitaries. Later this year he will facilitate meetings and accompany a group of Senior US political leaders (signatories of the Good Friday Agreement which brought peace after 30 years of violence) to explore ideas for bridging-building between divided communities. As part of this 12-day tour, Sands will have a two-day residency in Harvard University, where he will sing and speak to both The Medical School and the Kennedy School of Leadership. The concert at CTK will begin at 3 p.m. and be followed by a light reception and social time. Admission is $25 in advance or $30 at the door.
